Yu’s laboratory focuses on insects, but their immune systems can also affect the humans around them. “We know that some infectious diseases, like malaria, dengue fever, yellow fever, West Nile fever, are caused by viruses or parasites, but are transmitted by insects like mosquitoes or ticks,” the researcher explains.
