Most of Ferdowsi’s research is conducted via computer modeling, since the storage units that the system requires are often still in development. This approach sometimes leads to issues with test results—“The simulations are sometimes not very realistic,” Ferdowsi admits. Creating these new batteries will require cooperation from multiple disciplines. “That would be a very good research challenge for electrical engineers, material science engineers, and electrochemists to work together and actually develop some better models,” he explains.
As my first grant, the UMRB funding brought a certain level of confidence that my idea was worth funding, and it led to larger steps.
