The Best of Both Worlds
Automobiles of the future will need power sources that are effective in terms of both energy density, the amount of energy stored in a given mass, and power density, the speed at which energy may be stored. Current batteries are energy-dense, but do not have high power density. “The idea that I have been pursuing is somehow integrating these two storage mechanisms with each other so we would have a hybrid system,” Ferdowsi explains, thus creating a power source that will be vital in the next generation of automobiles.
As my first grant, the UMRB funding brought a certain level of confidence that my idea was worth funding, and it led to larger steps.
