Impact of the UMRB Grant

Right after receiving her Research Board funding in 2007, Zolman applied for an external grant through the National Science Foundation. The application was denied due to lack of preliminary data. Not to be discouraged, Zolman used the University of Missouri Research Board grant to conduct experiments and gather the necessary preliminary data. When she reapplied to the NSF in 2008, she was awarded a five-year CAREER Grant. “I’m convinced that the Research Board Funding and that extra data we generated was the reason this grant got funded the second time,” she says.
