The True, the Good, and the Beautiful?

Both Nietzche and Martin challenge the idea that truth leads to beauty and goodness. “All great art involves some kind of deception,” the UMRB researcher explains, some smoothing or glossing of reality to create the artist’s ideal representation of the world. “Once you grant that, we’ve driven a wedge between the true and the good.” While most people are willing to admit that they deceive themselves and others on occasion, some may argue that they do not do so consciously.
